Curtis Hairston

Curtis HairstonCurtis Hairston was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He began singing at the early age of 3 and was actively involved in the Tot's Choir, Children's Choir, and was an active member of the Spiritual Choir. Curtis became known locally for his rendition of 'We Are All God's Children' and he sang the song at his grandfather's church each Sunday.

By the age of 13 Curtis had made up his mind to sing professionally. His early public education was in the Winston-Salem and Forsyth County Schools. Curtis then furthered his education at Winston-Salem State University. He continued his musical training at Julliard School of Music, in New York City.

NBA Basketball star, Earl "the Pearl" Monroe, had set up his recording label, Pretty Pearl Records, and on a visit to Winston-Salem, Curtis got in touch with him. They had both attended the same University and soon struck up a relationship that led to Curtis signing to Earl's label.

Earl took Curtis to New York where the legendary disc jockey, Frankie Crocker, heard Curtis sing. Crocker invited Curtis to open a show, at the famous Studio 54, for then a little-known singer named Madonna. Curtis' debut single 'I Want You (All Tonight)' was an instant New York hit and became a Top 50 hit for RCA in the U.K. in 1983.

The follow-up 'I Want Your Lovin' (Just A Little Bit)' was released in the UK for London Records in 1985, reaching the Top 15 slot later that year. Back in the US he had an R & B hit with his version of 'We All Are One'. Jimmy Cliff's achieved some success with the song at the same time.

Curtis went on to sign with Atlantic Records, where he teamed up with his former producer and writer of most of his songs, Greg Radford. Radford, along with fellow producer Kaye Williams, who also produced the BB&Q Band that Curtis fronted, collaborated on the Atlantic Records album. On that album, 'Shining Star' and 'Chilling Out', written and produced by Radford were the standout songs.

Now hear a combination of the songs that made Curtis Hairston so dear to so many people, plus songs like "Home", "Elysian Lady" and "Passions" amongst that have never been released before by this "unknown" superstar. These songs have been digitally re-mastered and made available to you. So, if you've heard Curtis Hairston before, sit back and enjoy. If you haven't heard him before, you are in for a real treat. Regardless, enjoy the velvet voice of CURTIS HAIRSTON.
